Opinel N°06 Baroudeur sage, 7 cm blade

The Opinel No.06 Baroudeur Sauge is a folding knife with a 7 cm stainless steel blade. Its varnished hornbeam handle has a lace, and the Virobloc ring locks the blade open or closed. This reference is the No.06 format in the Sauge colour.

The Yatagan profile and locking ring

The blade follows Opinel's traditional Yatagan profile, inspired by a Turkish sabre with an upswept point. It has a convex grind. The martensitic stainless steel has a stated hardness of 55 to 57 HRC and can be resharpened when needed.

The stainless steel Virobloc consists of a fixed part and a sliding part. Locking it open accompanies blade use; locking it closed serves storage. Marcel Opinel invented this system in 1955, and it is fitted to this No.06.

A hornbeam handle in Sauge

The handle measures 9.29 cm. Hornbeam is a pale wood with little grain, allowing the colour to be applied without distortion. The Sauge finish is varnished for added resistance to moisture and dirt. A lace at the end of the handle lets you attach the knife.

Wood and steel need different care. Stainless steel resists corrosion, but Opinel notes its limits under prolonged contact with acids, salt water or cleaning agents. Varnish does not make the handle unaffected by immersion either.

Care after use

Clean the open blade with warm water, a sponge and washing-up liquid. Rinse without wetting the wood excessively, then let the blade dry before closing. Do not immerse the knife or put it in the dishwasher, following Opinel's pocket-knife care instructions.
